"I am 76 and 51 of those years has been spent in animal rescue in some form or another....either with a shelter or animal control. The majority of my time was spent fostering abused dogs and finding the right homes for them.
I worked with Dana DeMasters at TriCounty Animal Shelter, 5 days a week from 8:30 AM to usually around 4:00 PM in a volunteer position. I chose those hours and days because volunteers were so hard to come by and I loved the work.
Dana is by far the hardest working shelter manager I have ever been involved with....and the most compassionate. She takes her responsibility for the animals in her care to the next level as well as handling day to day operations and all other problems that come up unexpectedly. Like the recent death of the owner of 2 elderly Great Danes who needed immediate medical care and new homes.
She is solely responsible for the care of animals that have been abandoned, surrendered by their owners, or taken into custody by animal control. She and her staff work hard to ensure that these animals are healthy and safe while they await adoption or return to their owners. I know all of this for a fact. She keeps her team lifted up also. There was many times I wanted to throw rocks at people but Dana would just say "Breathe". I will forever sing her praises."
